Overview
Our client is currently seeking a Flood Risk Engineer to join their team on a contract basis in Essex. This full‑time, temporary role is for an initial 3‑month period with a view to extend, working 37 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver technical services across flood risk analysis, including reviewing flood risk assessments and SuDS designs.
* Respond to planning applications and contribute to the management of the council's flood storage assets.
* Challenge consultants and developers to design effective drainage systems compliant with local and national policy and legislation.
* Provide expertise in SuDS systems, monitoring, and assessing drainage systems across various developments.
* Ensure the council meets its statutory obligations and maintain high standards of probity and conduct.
* Contribute to the Environmental Protection and Drainage Team on flood risk management, land drainage, and SuDS systems review.
* Undertake practical work such as lifting manholes, inspecting drainage systems, or flood risk assets.
* Make routine decisions regarding site visits, inspections, and public enquiries.
Job Requirements
* Relevant professional degree/qualification or equivalent work experience in flood risk engineering, drainage, or environmental protection.
* Understanding of safeguarding issues commensurate with the role.
* Experience in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity.
* Demonstrable track record of providing efficient, effective, and professional flood risk assessment services.
* Proficiency in IT skills, including MS Office and GIS mapping systems. Knowledge of MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage would be advantageous.
* High attention to detail and diligent record‑keeping skills.
* Understanding of council financial and procurement processes and current issues facing local government.
