About the Role

Working Hours: Up to 37 hours per week (daytime and evening classes, where applicable)

Working location: This is a City Wide role, visit our website to view the locations of our teaching centres

Contract Type: 2 x Part Time/Full-time, Permanent

Legal Right to Work: Applicants must have existing right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Interview: If shortlisted the first stage will be an assessment centre on Tuesday June 2nd.

Start date: September 2026 (potential to start earlier)

Closing Date: 14 May 2026, Closing time: 11:59pm

References: 2 references, where possible we require 3 years of employment history.

Qualifications: Teaching qualifications, Professional Development Qualification relevant to the role, Subject competency (Math).

DBS Clearance: This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointed candidates will need an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.


Key Responsibilities

* To teach online lessons (where appropriate) as well as teaching in our centres across the city as needed; this may involve the evening class.
* To join a committed and supportive team of teachers who work together to support adult learners in the community to achieve their goals.
* To deliver teaching and learning to at least a consistently good or outstanding standard.
* To assess learners and work accurately against appropriate awarding body criteria/key course targets to ensure learners achieve their qualifications/course goals.
* To comply with safeguarding procedures.
* To take course leadership responsibilities (where applicable).
* To take part in team meetings and working groups.
* To ensure close liaison and good communications with other staff concerning learners.
* To comply with the service quality assurance procedures.
* To maintain records on learners including attendance and achievement.
* To take personal and professional responsibility for keeping up to date in the subject area and administration processes.
* To positively represent the MAES internally and externally at all times.


About the Candidate

We are looking for candidates who can inspire adult learners to develop their skills and aspirations to enable learners to improve employment opportunities, confidence, health or help their families.

We look for a track record of successfully delivering Maths courses to varying skill and knowledge levels, including learners with additional needs.

Ideally you will have experience of teaching adult learners and you will be expected to maintain your competency in a recent teaching role. We welcome applications from newly and recently qualified teachers, as well as established teachers.


Qualifications

* Professional and academic competence/qualifications to teach on the courses.
* Experience of adopting a range of teaching and learning strategies both face‑to‑face and online.
* Use of e‑learning platforms such as Google Classroom and others (e.g. BKSB) or willingness to learn.
* Commitment to develop your professional development.
* A flexible approach, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
* The ability to engage and develop adult learners, and role‑model the attributes that we develop within our learners.
* Hold GCSE A*‑C / 9‑4 in English or equivalent (essential).
* Hold GCSE A*‑C / 9‑4 in Maths or equivalent (essential).
* Hold a teaching qualification, ideally to Level 5 (subject specialism) or willingness to work toward.

Pre‑Employment Checks

* Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) Clearance – for roles involving access to sensitive information.
* Driving Licence – if the role requires driving.
