Equine Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Hambleton Equine Clinic are recruiting an Equine Veterinary Nurse RVN to join our highly dedicated team in our state-of-the-art equine clinic in beautiful North Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, reliable and friendly team worker with the ability to operate efficiently in a busy clinical environment and work to a very high clinical standard. This role will enable you to be exposed to all types of equine nursing. We offer a competitive salary, CPD allowance and RCVS and BEVA membership. You will take an equal share in the out of hours on call rota currently set at one week night every other week and 1 in every 5 weekends.
The Practice
Hambleton Equine Clinic is the only purpose equine veterinary clinic in North Yorkshire. We have a full range of equine diagnostic equipment and surgical facilities including standing MRI, bone scan, portable radiography, gastroscopy/endoscopy, ultrasound and hospitalisation facilities that service a variety of case work including pleasure and leisure, performance and sports horses, racing and stud work.
The Role
* Provide inpatients and outpatients with a high level of care.
* Ensure accurate completion of documentation and compliance records.
* Work alongside the vets to ensure correct health checks are completed and medications are administered in compliance with practice protocols for record keeping.
* Assist the veterinary surgeons in the course of their clinical work to ensure the highest level of customer care.
* Ensure the equine areas of the hospital are clean and tidy to reduce the risk of infection.
* Keep the examination rooms and theatre stocked with appropriate medications and consumables.
* Ensure that any surgical instruments and veterinary equipment is cleaned and sterilized (if appropriate) as soon as they are used and are stored in their correct place.
* Prepare surgery and assist throughout all surgical procedures.
* Comply with specific local regulations for Health and Safety especially in relation to radiation controls and disposal of clinical waste, hazardous material, sharps, general waste and recycling.
* Submit work completed to the accounts system in a timely manner.
Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will be will have experience in an equine veterinary practice, with an understanding of equine surgical procedures (both GA and standing surgery), reproductive services and intensive care nursing including foals. They will demonstrate they are hard-working, accept responsibility and be able to prioritise their workload. They will be a team player, and demonstrate exceptional communication with clients and the whole team.
· A recognised qualification in Veterinary Nursing
· An understanding and experience of equine veterinary practice
· High level of horse husbandry and horse handling ability
· An understanding of sterility and the spread of infection
· Outstanding communication skills
· The ability to be organised in a busy environment and to prioritise tasks appropriately
· Ability to work as a team
