Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a successful candidate to join CHoICE in the position of Small Works Officer (Engineering). On behalf of STSFT you will estimate, supervise and manage a wide range of engineering‑related small works activities and undertake a proactive role in developing and maintaining health & safety standards within the Department.
Responsibilities
* Estimate, obtain quotations, coordinate and supervise internal and external staff for small works, minor new works, non‑complex maintenance contracts and minor elements of wider capital schemes.
* Utilise approved contractors and in‑house staff where applicable and oversee associated activities at properties managed by CHoICE.
* Ensure high safety standards by supervising, managing and guiding qualified engineering‑related contractors and in‑house staff.
* Deliver and maintain health and safety elements onsite: arrange work equipment inspections, undertake site inductions, create and review task risk assessments, arrange and deliver staff training and toolbox talks.
* Maintain suitable records to demonstrate compliance with health and safety requirements.
* May be required to work at other CHoICE properties and participate in the winter measures on‑call rota.

* Supervisory experience and/or qualifications.
* Certificate in Management Studies or equivalent.
* Experience of NHS buildings and engineering services.
Qualifications (Essential)
* Completed a recognised relatable engineering apprenticeship.
* Basic numeracy & literacy skills.
* Knowledge & understanding of relevant engineering regulations and guidance.
* NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent Level 3 qualification.
* Knowledge of engineering trades and works found within a large NHS Acute Trust.
* Computer / IT skills.
Qualifications (Desirable)
* Management qualification.
* HNC/HND in an engineering discipline.
* Health & Safety qualification, e.g., IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH.
Skills (Essential)
* Cascade information to internal and external customers.
* Manage & supervise tasks and work to deadlines.
* Keyboard / IT skills.

* Salary: £40,327 per year.
* Contract: Permanent.
