The role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Operations and Logistics Manager to set-up, launch and lead Uniphar Groups new state-of-the-art facility located in Derbyshire. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end operational planning, staffing and implementation of lean warehouse processes, ensuring efficiency, safety and scalability. The ideal candidate must be a strategic planner with strong leadership capabilities, excellent supply chain experience and a proven track record in warehouse operations management.

You will play a critical role in continually driving innovation and efficiencies across operations, logistics, and facilities with a view to delivering an efficient, focused and dedicated warehouse-as-a-service to all business units operating within the facility.

This exciting role sits within the Uniphar Groups Global Operations team and is fully aligned to and must collaborate on key group strategic projects both within the UK and globally.

Responsibilities

* Transition Management: Develop and execute a detailed transition plan for moving operations from London to the new Derbyshire depot with minimal disruption; manage inventory transfer, systems migration, and operational readiness activities; coordinate with internal stakeholders (commercial, quality, IT, regulatory) to align timelines, roles, and responsibilities; oversee the physical move of stock, equipment, and key assets while maintaining service continuity; provide regular transition progress updates to senior management and escalate risks as needed.
* Operations & Logistics Leadership: Recruit, train and manage a cross-functional team in daily warehouse and logistics operations, fostering a culture of accountability, safety and continuous improvement; be the SME and champion of our Warehouse Management System (WMS), Transport Management System (TMS) and other operational software platforms; ensure the new facility delivers efficient services for all business units and meets performance targets; develop and maintain KPIs to monitor operational effectiveness and report regularly to stakeholders; oversee transport planning, ASN processes, and route optimization; drive operational cost reductions through process improvement and vendor management; manage annual budgets (CapEx, transport, payroll, energy, and facility costs).
* Health & Safety Management: Update and maintain Health & Safety procedures and the organizations Safety Statement in compliance with UK and EU regulatory requirements; conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards; maintain accurate records of incidents and accidents, producing reports for senior management; stay current on Health & Safety legislation and industry developments affecting operations; deliver training programs including Induction, Refresher, and Manual Handling; implement preventative maintenance plans for facilities and plant equipment; manage and coordinate all external contractors to agreed safety standards and within budget; act as company representative during client and regulatory audits; develop, monitor, and audit Health & Safety policies across the business.
* Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence: Identify system and process gaps; lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and sustainability; optimize use of existing systems, improve reporting capabilities, and ensure operational readiness for future growth; champion sustainability and ESG initiatives within the depot; support compliance with GDP, GMP, and other relevant regulations; drive initiatives for cost reduction and service enhancement across business units.
* Additional Responsibilities: Oversee inbound/outbound shipments, ensuring on-time performance for exports, imports, and domestic deliveries; manage Hazmat compliance for regulated shipments; monitor stock and ensure adequate warehouse supply levels; handle day-to-day facilities issues within agreed budgets and timelines; manage and establish vendor contracts and procurement of warehouse equipment and materials.

Key Skills & Experience

* Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
* 5-10 years of experience in a similar role within a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
* Strong understanding of GDP, GMP, and European quality standards.
* Proven leadership ability, with experience managing multi-site or transition projects.
* Demonstrated success in driving operational transformation and managing complexity.
* Strong financial acumen for budgeting and cost control.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on innovation and process improvement.

How We Would Like to Work Together

Given the critical outcomes expected from this role, it will be primarily based at our new Derbyshire depot. This is not a traditional 9-to-5 position; it requires adaptability to meet operational demands, particularly during the transition period.

In return for your flexibility, you’ll join an organization that values work-life integration and understands the realities of balancing both. We offer a supportive and progressive working environment designed to provide flexibility where possible, while ensuring the delivery of outstanding results.
