Senior Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer - Aseptic Services
We are looking to recruit a pharmacy assistant technical officer to work within Aseptic Services, under the guidance of the Lead Pharmacist for Cancer Services and the Aseptic Services Technical Manager. This unit operates under exemption from Section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968 and prepares a range of aseptically prepared chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies.
The unit focuses on maintaining and improving quality and performance, working closely with the Cancer Services directorate to deliver a service that adapts to the changing needs of our local population.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, detail‑oriented, a good communicator, flexible and a strong team player.
Qualifications and experience
* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills (or equivalent)
* Good communication and teamwork skills
* Willingness to learn and adapt; training will be provided for those with no experience in aseptic services.
Core responsibilities
* Environmental monitoring of the aseptic unit using broth media and recording temperatures and pressures
* Assembly of ingredients, worksheets and labels of raw materials
* Preparation of chemotherapy/monoclonal antibodies, including in-process volume checks and visual inspection of final products
* Cleaning and disinfection of the unit in accordance with SOPs on a daily, weekly, three-monthly and annual basis, and other general housekeeping duties
* Ordering and replenishment of stocks
* Dispensing oral chemotherapy and bought-in IV prefilled chemotherapy
Additional responsibilities
* Support the wider pharmacy team in the dispensary, including late-night, weekend and bank holiday shifts on rota.
* Receive training on the use of the computer and labelling systems.
