We are recruiting a motivated and engaging Public Services Lecturer with a strong Health & Fitness focus to join a Further Education college in South East London.
This role sits within a Sport & Public Services curriculum area, delivering Level 2 and Level 3 programmes with a particular emphasis on physical training, fitness development, health, and preparation for uniformed services careers.
You will support learners aspiring to careers in policing, fire and rescue, armed forces, emergency services, security and related sectors, ensuring they develop both the theoretical understanding and physical fitness standards required for progression.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging lessons across Level 2 & Level 3 Public Services programmes, with a strong emphasis on health, fitness and physical training
*
Deliver practical and theory-based sessions linked to fitness testing, physical preparation and well-being in uniformed services
*
Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support achievement and retention
*
Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment and learner performance
*
Act as a personal tutor, supporting learner development and progression planning
*
Contribute to curriculum development within Sport & Public Services
*
Support learners in preparing for careers requiring physical and fitness competencies
*
Liaise with colleagues and external partners to enhance learner progression opportunities
About You – Skills & Experience
*
Experience teaching in Further Education (16+) OR strong industry background within public services, sport, health & fitness or physical training
*
Knowledge of fitness standards and physical requirements for uniformed services careers
*
Ability to deliver both classroom-based theory and practical fitness sessions
*
Strong communication skills and ability to motivate learners
*
Confident managing practical sessions safely and effectively
*
Organised and able to prioritise workload in a part-time role
Qualifications
*
Relevant qualification in Public Services, Sport, Health & Fitness, Sports Coaching or related discipline
*
Enhanced DBS On Update Service
*
Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, Level 5 Diploma) desirable or willingness to work towards
*
GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent)
