We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions, or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.
To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.
Applications are welcome for the above fixed term, full (40 hours per week) post based in the Western General Hospital.
To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country.
As part of the pre‑employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre‑settled status.
For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licensed Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found here.
It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.
This clinical teaching fellow post provides an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and enthusiastic team. You will work within the Infectious Diseases team providing comprehensive care to patients with a range of infectious diseases in inpatient and front door settings. You will join a team of around 11‑12 other resident doctors including FY2, IMTs and registrars. You will be allocated an Educational Supervisor.
In addition to clinical work, this role will include 50% dedicated sessions in Medical Education, working within a supportive team with peer support and mentorship. You will be encouraged to complete the Clinical Educator Programme. You will be involved in the development and delivery of teaching for Year 4 medical students in both infectious diseases and microbiology. Teaching delivery will include small group tutorials and bedside teaching sessions as well as teaching practical sessions for Year 2 medical students. In addition, there will be opportunities to develop resources and other methods of teaching, including simulation to improve the student experience.
The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
