Research associate in bioengineering and biomaterials

Manchester
The University of Manchester
Research associate
Posted: 14 October
Offer description

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding and ambitious biomedical engineer to undertake research in the field of bioengineering and biomaterial research. In particular, this researcher will be an addition to Professor Sarah Cartmell’s group, with their research primarily focused on supporting the delivery of the Confidence for Translation (C4T) funded project evaluating electrostimulation under inflammatory conditions, in both monolayer and in 3D constructs, led by Dr Jose Ricardo Aguilar Cosme. This is a 10-month appointment, with 5 months funded directly by the C4T grant (Medical Research Council (MRC) with contributions from the Wellcome Translational Partnership Award (TPA), the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)) and an additional 5 months supported by the School of Natural Sciences

You should have, or be working towards, a PhD or equivalent in biomaterials, bioengineering or a related discipline. Expertise in mammalian cell culture, bioreactor systems (with a focus on electrical stimulation and/or mechanical stimulation), biocompatibility testing, immunological and biochemical assays, microscopy, and mechanical testing techniques are essential. Familiarity with molecular biological analysis (e.g. qPCR), computational modelling, and CT imaging is highly desirable. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and assisting in leading a small research team, so strong communication and organisational skills are also required. The appointed Research Associate will also support Professor Sarah Cartmell through grant writing, journal manuscript submission, and supervision of MSc and undergraduate student projects.
