Position - Sheetmetal Fabricator / Welder Supervisor
The company is a small specialised engineering company that is looking to expand its engineering and manufacturing team. They aim to strengthen the team with an experienced sheet metal fabricator welder and team supervisor.
This role reports to the Works Manager and involves supervising the fabrication and welding team. Ideally, we are looking for a hands-on welder/fabricator who is seeking an opportunity to move into a supervisory role. Approximately 20% of your time will be dedicated to team management, ensuring they have everything needed to produce high-quality, cost-effective fabrications supporting the business, including new and used machinery.
The company operates a 39-hour week: Monday to Thursday from 07:00 and Friday from 07:00.
The hourly rate is circa GBP 22.00, depending on skills and experience. The company is flexible and willing to negotiate the salary to attract the right candidate. Please do not let salary concerns deter you from discussing this role, the company, and the opportunities available.
All welders in the company are coded, and we require the same for any new hires. We will arrange for coding when we next requalify our team.
The role involves:
* Supervising the team and supporting daily activities
* Working from drawings and sketches
* Fabricating stainless and mild steel sheets and sections
* Welding using MIG, TIG, and Manual Metal Arc techniques
* Manual cutting with plasma and flame cutting methods
* Welding to insurance standards (BS5500/ BS EN 286), with competence measured by in-house testing (coded welders only)
* Translating drawn requirements into manufactured components efficiently
* Working according to written manufacturing instructions
* Collaborating closely with other fabricators, welders, and staff to ensure optimal production efficiency
* Maintaining a clean and orderly workshop environment
* Using appropriate hand-held and powered tools and equipment
* Applying skills in cutting, marking out, squaring off, bending, etc.
* Proficiently using guillotine, rollers, brake press, and hand tools
