An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and registered senior Health Play Specialist to join our Play and Youth Team in the Child Health department.
Role Overview

Can you lead play-based therapeutic interventions to support emotional well-being, reduce anxiety, and enhance recovery? Do you champion the power of play to help babies, children, and young people feel safe, understood, and empowered?
This role involves providing therapeutic play, preparation, distraction therapy, and normalized play to children and young people in hospital. You will need to hold the Health Play Specialist qualification and be registered as a Health Play Specialist, with at least 2 years post-qualifying experience working with individuals aged 0-18 years in a healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic play interventions based on evidence-based practice.
2. Participate in safeguarding children and young people, adhering to policies.
3. Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to treatment plans.
4. Develop and deliver individual therapeutic play programs, including procedural preparation and post-procedure play.
5. Provide emotional support to parents and carers during stressful or crisis moments.
6. Mentor and supervise junior staff and students in the team.
7. Contribute to protocol and standard development for the department.
Qualifications and Experience
* Foundation degree in Healthcare Play Specialism, Edexcel certificate or diploma as a Hospital Play Specialist.
* Registered and qualified Health Play Specialist.
* Minimum 2 years experience working with children and young people in healthcare.
* Understanding of complex needs and additional support.
* Leadership skills and teamwork experience.
