Offer description

An exciting opportunity for a full-time Band 6 Occupational Therapist has arisen within the Therapies suite, providing input into the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Wigan, in the Wigan directorate of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH).

Wigan PICU is a 8-bedded female PICU based in Atherleigh Park Hospital in Leigh. The unit has 5 wards in total: one PICU, three adult acute wards for working age adults, and one older persons ward.

The post holder will deliver holistic occupational therapy assessments and interventions to service users on the PICU, establishing levels of function, identifying engagement in roles, meeting their values, evaluating and reducing risk, and facilitating occupational performance to support recovery and discharge planning. This may include assessments to support applications for housing or alternative hospital settings, and identifying long-term occupational therapy or rehabilitation needs requiring support from other NHS services.

You will join an established inpatient therapies team comprising occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychological therapists, activities coordinators, and AHP support staff. Your role will be based on the PICU ward but will involve working from the therapies suite to provide assessments and interventions, while being an integral part of the therapies site team.

Our PICU team offers a supportive, creative, and motivated multidisciplinary environment that values Occupational Therapy and practice development. Professional, clinical, and managerial supervision is actively provided, along with development opportunities aligned with your professional development plan.

The post holder will be an active member of the Trust Network for PICU pathways, involved in developing and implementing OT pathways in this specialist service. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, committed, highly motivated, and a team player with excellent communication skills, capable of delivering evidence-based assessments and recovery-focused interventions.

You will receive support from a therapies team on site and at the organizational level to develop and support appropriate pathways for our service users.

Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 7,000 staff delivering services from more than 122 locations. We provide inpatient and community mental health care across Bolton, Manchester, Salford, Trafford, and Wigan, along with a wide range of specialist services across Greater Manchester and beyond.
