About Our Client
Our client is a leading energy trading company based in North Yorkshire.
Job Description
The Compliance Surveillance Analyst based in North Yorkshire will be responsible for:
1. Identify and lead changes to the surveillance process, including automated alerting, to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
2. Perform periodic reviews on market abuse patterns and risk assessments to evaluate the surveillance framework.
3. Support the Wholesale Compliance team in delivering physical and financial regulatory compliance across the group.
4. Conduct all associated BAU activities related to wholesale energy markets (REMIT, licences, industry codes) and financial markets (EMIR, MAR, MiFID II, FSMA/RAO).
5. Monitor trades, dispatch, and electronic communications, escalating issues to management as needed.
6. Conduct independent monitoring, reviews, and investigations into compliance matters.
7. Support 2LOD assurance activities across business functions, implementing mitigation strategies and supporting 1LOD and 3LOD activities.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal Compliance Surveillance Analyst will possess:
1. A strong academic background in a numerical or business discipline, or demonstrable relevant experience.
2. Basic understanding or interest in wholesale physical and financial markets.
3. Knowledge of wholesale markets and regulatory frameworks such as REMIT, MAR, MiFID II, EMIR, TCLC, IOLC, S&P, FSMA, and RAO, or transferable skills from prior experience.
4. Experience working with commercial teams, including 24-hour trading functions, demonstrating trust, confidence, and the ability to challenge the status quo.
5. Experience participating in projects involving complex data and influencing operational culture.
