The role of a Maintenance Assistant covering our Cannock Sunflex site and both our manufacturing sites in Leicester involves overseeing maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations, standards, and best practices. This includes working closely with Dunelm’s central Health & Safety, Waste Management, and Internal Audit Teams. The Maintenance Assistant will attend the Quarterly H&S Meeting to represent the Sunflex site.

Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance and repairs, inspecting and repairing machinery, equipment, and infrastructure, responding to repair requests, maintaining cleanliness, ensuring safety compliance, keeping detailed records, managing stock effectively, and assisting in training team members.

What you'll be doing

* Perform routine maintenance and repairs: Inspect and repair machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
* Respond to repair requests: Address plumbing issues, electrical faults, and other repairs, ensuring compliance with legal and internal standards.
* Manage and maintain site equipment, machinery, and infrastructure to support operations and increase colleague engagement.
* Support maintenance and compliance projects, including legislative changes and site investments.
* Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
* Follow health and safety guidelines and conduct risk assessments for each job.
* Document all maintenance activities, including time, parts used, and follow-up actions.
* Manage stock: ensure cost-effective use of parts and materials and report needs.
* Complete regular training and assist in training team members.

Maintenance and Site Development

* Lead and support the maintenance team, providing guidance and training.
* Develop and implement maintenance plans, including preventive, predictive, and corrective tasks.
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Schedule and oversee maintenance activities.
* Coordinate with other departments to minimize downtime.
* Manage maintenance budget and track costs.
* Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and inventory.
* Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
* Maintain relationships with external contractors and vendors.
* Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests.

Audits & Inspections

* Coordinate internal and external audits, prepare documentation, and address non-compliance issues.
* Investigate and resolve compliance issues and complaints.
* Prepare and submit compliance reports as required.
* Maintain compliance documentation and records.

Training & Awareness

* Educate and train employees on compliance issues to ensure understanding of responsibilities.

Risk Management

* Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies, including preventative and corrective measures.

* Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
