The role involves challenging high-achieving students to merge complex engineering, materials science, and modern manufacturing concepts with precise physical and digital portfolio prototyping.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
* Advanced Curriculum Delivery: Plan and facilitate intellectually demanding DT lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, pushing students to achieve top-tier marks in GCSE design specifications.
* Workshop Safety Leadership: Maintain rigorous health and safety compliance throughout all workshops, ensuring flawless machinery maintenance, complete personal protective equipment (PPE) discipline, and safe tool usage.
* CAD/CAM & Innovation Drive: Guide students in leveraging modern technology, including 3D printing, laser cutting, and computer-aided design software, to produce sophisticated, high-quality project portfolios.
* Material Inventory Coordination: Manage technical workshops efficiently by organizing materials, tracking equipment stock levels, and working closely with technician support to prepare resources for complex practical sessions.
* Pastoral & Form Tutoring: Direct a dedicated form group, actively executing morning registration routines, tracking attendance profiles, and acting as the consistent point of contact for parent communications.
ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE
* Grammar School Framework: Operating as an academically selective state grammar school, our institution nurtures a culture of high aspiration, scholarly focus, and exceptional student outcomes in public examinations.

* Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential, alongside a strong honors degree in Product Design, Engineering, or an allied technical discipline.
* Technical Accreditation: Up-to-date health and safety certifications for secondary wood and metal workshop machinery (such as DATA accreditation) are highly desirable.
* Pedagogical Standards: A proven capacity or clear commitment to securing outstanding progress outcomes for academically gifted students through clear, structured instruction and rigorous portfolio guidance.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
* Engineering & Innovation Corridor: Based in Northampton, the school is situated within a thriving market town historically rooted in precision manufacturing and closely connected to the UK's high-performance motorsport and engineering sectors.
* Connectivity: The area offers excellent transit links, providing efficient local commuting options via the outline road networks (M1 corridor, A45) and direct rail links connecting smoothly to both London Euston and Birmingham New Street.
