Role
ASSISTANT HEAD OF DEPARTMENT & TEACHER OF BIOLOGY - Full time, Permanent Salary £32,178 to £49,725 FTE + £2,261 RA3 allowance
(Experience in A Level, Vocational Level 3, or BTEC (level 3) Applied Human Biology - all Biology teaching backgrounds welcomed)
Responsibilities
* As Assistant Head of Department, work closely with the Head of Department to uphold and promote the College’s values and contribute to a cohesive, forward-thinking team.
* Enhance the quality of teaching and learning, student engagement, and attendance by fostering a supportive, inclusive environment.
* Maintain strong communication with students and their families and support effective use of the College’s Information System (markbook, PI indicators, notes) to monitor and support all students, particularly those at risk.
* Deliver engaging and innovative lessons across A Level Biology, BTEC (Level 3) Applied Human Biology, and potentially other science areas such as Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering depending on expertise.
Qualifications
* Degree in Biology, Human Biology, or closely related field, plus a recognised teaching qualification or working towards one.
* Strong communication skills, student-centered approach, and willingness to embrace new teaching methods.

Salaries are competitive, based on the Sixth Form College teachers’ pay scale (NSP 1 £32,178 to NSP 9 £49,725 FTE per annum), plus a responsibility allowance of £2,261 per annum. These pay scales are reviewed annually by the National Joint Council (NJC) and are subject to a nationally agreed pay award, which, once agreed, will be backdated to 1 September 2025.
