A little more about your role… WSP are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Technician to join the Roads team based in our Guildford office. You’ll be working alongside a host of talented people ranging from our early career professionals to established engineers and project managers working across the Roads business and a wide range of other disciplines to improve the local and strategic road networks and develop a broad range of infrastructure projects. Your role will be at the heart of our high performing and supportive team, using your skills and expertise to help us maintain and improve the quality of our engineering outputs. You can expect your role to involve delivering – Highway design solutions such as access and haul roads to help deliver National Grids Great Grid Upgrade portfolio A wide variety of highway improvements of varying scales for National Highways on their Scheme Delivery Framework Road design and improvements for various local highway authorities in the surrounding area. Opportunity to develop experience in specific areas such as utilities, carbon, digital and drainage through work on large, multi-disciplinary projects. Key Duties: Work in a multidisciplinary team delivering innovative solutions. Deliver engineering solutions for projects, or work packages of varying scale, complexity, value and project stages, and could be working across several projects at any given time. Liaise with our clients, stakeholders and internal disciplines, developing trusted relationships, and proactively managing expectations. Work closely with Project and Technical Delivery teams to measure carbon on our projects using WSP Future Ready programme. Be part of the team to deliver in compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in-house quality assurance Proficiency in design and drafting tools like Civils3D/AutoCAD. additional skills in Bentely design software such as OpenRoads Designer/MicroStation would be advantageous. Familiarity with BIM environments such as ProjectWise, Autodesk Forma (formerly ACC), other Common Data Environments, CAD QA/QC processes, and collaborative digital delivery would also be beneficial. An interest or capability in digital automation, data-driven design, or computational tools, including AI-assisted workflows, Python, C++, Dynamo or similar, is welcomed. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate A passion for design and developing innovative solutions, demonstrating initiative and ingenuity to solve engineering problems. Good knowledge of relevant design standards and codes of best practice such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, and Local Authority design guidance. Level 4 qualification (or above) in a STEM based subject, or equivalent experience in an engineering technician role. Attained or working towards professional qualifications such as EngTech, with demonstrable progress. An understanding of highway engineering principles, including design techniques, standards, and procedures with the ability to apply this knowledge to small-scale projects or a limited number of moderately complex projects. Experience of data handling with MS Excel and/or other data-based systems Demonstrable experience engaging with clients, developers, consultants, elected representatives and the public. Good organisational skills and an attention to detail. Ability to undertake site visits to inform designs. Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.
