Role Responsibility An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Kent County Council’s Youth Justice Service as a Community Remand Coordinator. The successful candidate will work with the Ministry of Justice and Kent Youth Justice Service to lead on a pilot initiative to reduce the frequency and duration of children’s custodial remands. This role will coordinate and facilitate robust community programmes to offer as an alternative to custodial remand, as well as coordinate plans for children who are resettling into the community following spending time in custody, to prevent re-entry into the secure estate. The successful candidate will be required to identify and maximise familial and professional support to create robust community plans which consider the individual child’s needs, strengths, their safety and wellbeing. The aim of the community support plan is to promote the child’s sustainable desistance through the delivery of supportive interventions and protect the public from harm. The post holder will work closely with the Ministry of Justice to monitor pilot outcomes using audit processes and stakeholder feedback mechanisms to identify and share best practice. We are seeking someone who has a detailed knowledge of remand management and resettlement and who has experience of successfully engaging children in the criminal justice system. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service. This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
