Overview
Interventional Radiology is looking for a qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner. Ideally the right candidate will have either Cardiac Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology experience and will need to complete the department's IR competencies within the first 12 months of starting the role.
Responsibilities
* Provide high quality, autonomous clinical assessment and management for Interventional Radiology patients, including initial history taking, clinical assessment, treatment and evaluation of care.
* Demonstrate safe, senior clinical decision-making and expert care with appropriate clinical management plans and prescribing as required.
* Work collaboratively with Clinical Diagnostics, Radiology Nurse Manager, medical, nursing and radiographer colleagues to deliver service and ensure adherence to policy and procedures.
* Lead and deliver clinical care across settings per national and local guidelines, contributing to evidence-based practice and service improvement.
* Coordinate patient care across the pathway with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective management.
* Guide and educate junior medical and nursing staff on relevant protocols and procedures; participate in training and service development.
* Work across all areas where Interventional Radiology patients may be housed (pre-assessment, inpatient wards, Interventional Radiology) and participate in on-call duty as required.
* Undergo and utilise ongoing professional development, participate in audits, research, and contribute to policy and practice improvements.
* Initiate and manage care for patients who are critically ill or deteriorating within scope of practice; refer to senior colleagues when needed.
* Assess, diagnose, and manage treatment plans; request and interpret relevant investigations; prescribe where within scope of practice.
* Provide information and advice to patients on prescribed medications, side-effects and interactions; ensure consent and shared decision making.
* Document clearly all aspects of assessment, diagnosis and management plan using approved documentation framework.
* Ensure evidence-based care, patient safety, safeguarding, consent, and patient advocacy within legal and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Advanced Clinical Practitioner with experience in Cardiac Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology (or equivalent) and able to complete IR competencies within 12 months.
* Autonomously assess Interventional Radiology patients and provide expert clinical care.
* Self-directed learning and professional development; eligible to act as an independent prescriber (or registered as such) with ability to prescribe pharmacology and non-pharmacology treatments within scope of practice.
* Immunisation and vaccination report required from UK occupational health provider or UK GP (as part of pre-employment checks).
* Excellent communication and leadership skills; capable of guiding junior staff and engaging with patients, carers and other health professionals.
* Commitment to evidence-based practice, audit, and service improvement; familiarity with Datix or equivalent incident reporting systems.
* Understanding of safeguarding and working within local and statutory guidelines, policies and Trust values.
