About Stockport County

Founded in 1883, Stockport County are one of the country’s longest established football clubs. Initially formed as Heaton Norris Rovers, the Club officially became Stockport County in 1890 after the County Borough of Stockport and have been based at Edgeley Park since 1902.

The team currently competes in Sky Bet League One, the third tier of the English Football League, after winning the 2023–24 Sky Bet League Two title.

Role Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant to join our Football Operations team. The post holder will be responsible for player support, and assist with player registrations, contracts, and match-day operations, ensuring compliance with football governing body regulations. The position requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of football operations.

Key Responsibilities
• Assist players (particularly new signings and their families), with relocation, accommodation, transport, and settling into the local area.
• Provide ongoing pastoral care, addressing personal or family concerns to ensure players are mentally and physically prepared for their roles.
• Act as an intermediary between players and the club to resolve logistical or administrative issues (e.g. contractual queries).
• Co-ordinate player participation for media interviews, press conferences, and promotional campaigns, ensuring alignment with club and sponsor requirements.
• Organise and manage player appearances at community events, charity initiatives, or fan engagements.
• Liaise with the club’s marketing and commercial teams to schedule players for sponsor-related activities, ensuring contractual obligations are met.
• Ensure players are briefed on expectations, schedules, and protocols for public appearances.
• Planning of player & football staff workshops with internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with first team and B team player registrations, transfers, contract documentation, and maintenance of player databases and records.
• Ensure compliance with football regulations, assisting with EFL and FA regulatory submissions.
• Support the co-ordination of home & away matchday logistics including match officials and opposition club liaison, scout requests, and governing body compliance.
• Welcome and sign in home and away players, accredited media, and match officials, on a home matchday.
• Assist in arrangement of away travel and accommodation requirements.
• Help support training ground operations, liaising with and building relationships with players, first team and academy staff, groundstaff, caretaker, and catering staff.
• When required, record and update FA Whereabouts system in line with first team training schedule.
• Maintain accurate records of player appearances, travel arrangements, and welfare support required.
• Support the implementation and ensure compliance with club policies, including safeguarding, equality, and diversity standards, attending internal meetings when required.
• Take minutes during meetings and prepare reports and presentations as required by the Head of Football Operations.
• Responsible for first team stationery ordering and stock procurement.

Essential

• Organisational Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines, with composure and impeccable time management.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
• IT Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with sports management software or databases.
• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, players, staff, and external partners.
• Discretion: High level of professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
• Passion for football and an understanding of the demands of working in a high performance environment.
• Proactive, adaptable, and able to work under pressure, particularly during busy periods like transfer windows or match days.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle unexpected challenges, under your own supervision.
• Approachable, empathetic, and able to build trust with players and staff.

Desirable

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business administration, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory).
• Experience: Previous experience in sports administration, football operations, or a similar administrative role is highly desirable.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of football regulations, including those set by FIFA, UEFA, or national football associations. Basic legal knowledge would be beneficial.
