Are you a compassionate and caring individual who prides themselves on patient care and working in a team? We are looking for someone to join our Theatre Teams as a Theatre Support Worker in our Orthopaedic Theatre Team.
Cross site cover required – this post will cover Bridlington and Scarborough sites.
Our department is fast paced and dynamic with no two days the same. Upon completion of your 4‑week Healthcare Support Worker Academy you will undergo extensive training in the department during a supernumerary period with the support of our two in‑house Clinical Educators. You will be supported to complete a theatres skills book to provide our patients with the best possible care.
This role is a Band 2 post, progressing to a Band 3 post after one year of experience in a Theatre Health Care Support Worker role, provided the HCSW Theatre Department Skills training programme is completed.
Main duties of the job
* Supporting patients to make choices about their care and ensuring those choices are respected.
* Collecting patients from the ward and escorting them to theatre, acting as the 3rd person in the anaesthetic room.
* Informing the registered practitioner of any concerns regarding the patient so that they can be assessed in a timely manner.
* Disposing of bodily fluids, soiled linen, and spillages in accordance with Trust policy and guidelines.
* Supporting patients undergoing procedures physically and psychologically during and after the operation.
* Acting as a messenger and porter for supplies, specimens, records and other items required for patient care.
* Assisting the registered practitioner with patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
* Assisting in basic life support procedures as per Trust policy.
* Assisting with restocking supplies and maintaining equipment, reporting any issues to the registered practitioner.
* Adhering to standards and procedures that ensure efficient use of resources.
* Keeping areas clutter free.

Person Specification
Experience and Knowledge
* Understanding of patient‑centred care and the role of the Theatre Support Worker.
Qualifications
* Literacy and numeracy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2–3, D–F or equivalent), or willingness to undertake improvement.
* Demonstrable effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Willingness to undertake Band 2 trainee Theatre Support Worker Foundations Skills Portfolio.
* Basic IT skills, able to use applications such as email on a computer or smart device (e.g., tablet).
* Ability to prioritise tasks.
* Completion of the Skills for Health Care Certificate.
* Experience in a health or social care setting.
* Ability to communicate health‑related information.
