Job Overview
We are very excited to be looking for a motivated practice educator to join our friendly team in Walsall. We want an enthusiastic practitioner with excellent assessment and communication skills, eager to develop their clinical neonatal and leadership skills. In return you will be supported by our skilled senior nursing and medical team. You will be passionate about improving neonatal care and the experience of babies and their families in the neonatal unit. You will support staff to enable them to maintain high standards of clinical care and act as a role model.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and facilitate educational activities for registered and non‑registered nursing and midwifery staff within the designated practice area, including all education related to medical devices.
- Establish and maintain links with the Universities of Wolverhampton, Keele and Birmingham City.
- Participate in Foundation teaching sessions at Keele University as required.
- Participate in regional and national projects such as the West Midlands Perinatal Network groups relating to education and quality improvement.
- Actively participate in the improvement of patient experience and care standards on the Neonatal Unit and the wider relevant areas.
- Demonstrate effective clinical skills of a high quality, caring for special, high‑dependency and intensive‑care babies.
- Demonstrate professional expertise and knowledge acquired through post‑registration academic study and clinical, leadership and management development.
- Assume managerial responsibility and accountability in the absence of the Lead Nurse for the neonatal unit for 24‑hour care delivery and ward/area management, including supervision of staff and students.
- Maintain a visible presence in the ward/area of work and provide a clear focus for effective clinical leadership to the nursing team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Significant post QIS certification experience.
- Excellent assessment, communication, and management skills.
- Clinical neonatal expertise with experience in high‑dependency and intensive‑care settings.
- Post‑registration academic study and leadership/management development.
