The role
Technical Artist (Unity / VFX / VR) – Remote UK – Contract
We're looking for an experienced Technical Artist with strong Unity and VFX expertise to join a growing team working on a leading VR gaming project. This is an opportunity to help deliver high-quality visuals while ensuring excellent performance across VR platforms.
Location: Remote (UK)
Contract: Until December 2026
Rate: £35.58/hr PAYE
Responsibilities
- Create and implement high-quality visual effects for gameplay and UI
- Improve and define environment, VFX workflows, tooling, and shaders
- Develop original textures, meshes, sprite sheets, and technical art assets
- Contribute to hand-written HLSL shaders and rendering solutions
- Optimise visuals for mobile and VR platforms
- Resolve technical, visual, and performance-related issues
- Collaborate closely with artists, designers, and engineers
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years' experience working with Unity
- 2+ years' experience as a Technical Artist
- Strong VFX creation experience
- Extensive knowledge of Unity tools including:
- Particle Systems
- VFX Graph
- Animations
- Timelines
- Nested Prefabs
- Material Property Blocks
- Experience creating technical 2D and 3D assets using procedural DCC tools
- Deep understanding of rendering pipelines and graphics optimisation
- Experience with hand-written shaders (HLSL)
- Strong mobile and VR optimisation experience
Highly Desirable
- Experience creating original textures, meshes, sprite sheets, and shaders
- Experience working on VR titles
- Strong portfolio demonstrating VFX and technical art work
