This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals, interested in Gynaecological Oncology to join a reputable and established team of clinicians and researchers. The successful applicant will gain experience in managing complex oncological and surgical patients, and will be given dedicated time in their rota for clinical research and audits. This post is for 12 months which may be extended to a longer period, subject to clinical needs and progress of projects.
Based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre (NGOC) offers a broad range of surgery, and is famed for its ultra‑radical surgical repertoire, and early adoption of innovation. It is a European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) accredited Centre of Excellence for Ovarian Cancer.
Main duties of the job
The post holder's clinical duties will be based on our in‑patient surgical ward, outpatient clinics and operating theatre. The work on the ward encompasses arranging investigations, selecting appropriate treatment and providing peri‑operative care. This includes consultations on Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) for review of gynaecological oncology patients who need to be seen in a (semi‑)urgent timeframe. The post holder will require excellent communication skills to work on this ward providing care to patients with a wide range of disease presentations. Team working and organisational skills are paramount in the care of our patients. The post holder will be required to demonstrate an awareness of the limitations of their practice.
The post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of outpatient clinics which include new and follow‑up gynaecological oncology, colposcopy and vulva clinics. They will be able to assist in operating theatres and will have the opportunity to develop surgical skills.
There will be dedicated time allocated into the rota for research and the post holder will be expected to contribute to two clinical research projects in the field of vulva cancer and in the field of ovarian cancer.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will take part in a full shift rota, with 6 other trainees and this is to manage gynaecological oncology patients only. There is no obstetric or general gynaecology on call. This is a non‑resident on call 1:7 on a 2‑tier rota. When first on call you will be supported by a Subspecialty Fellow in the first period and a consultant off‑site.

Qualifications
* Valid GMC registration with a licence to practice in the UK.
* MRCOG or equivalent.
* Progress towards Higher Medical Qualification
Experience
* Evidence of clinical audit.
* Experience in O&G at senior SHO/ST level.
* Experience in formal and informal teaching.
* Colposcopy experience / BSCCP accreditation or equivalent
