Role: QHSE Engineer
The role requires working from our office in Ashington, Monday to Friday.
Reporting to: Head of Quality
Purpose of the Job: To ensure robust Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) practices across operations by:
* Providing a strong shop floor presence to support adherence to production standards and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
* Overseeing compliance with mandatory health and safety regulations. Managing and enhancing environmental performance and sustainability efforts.
* Acting as deputy for the Head of Quality during periods of absence.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Quality
* Work cross-functionally with Operators, Production & Technical Departments and Suppliers to adhere to product build standards.
* Lead on yield and quality improvement projects.
* Provide formal responses in the event of customer claims.
* Be actively involved in Root Cause Analysis and the implementation & verification of subsequent Corrective Action working collaboratively with other departments.
* Work closely with the internal Supplier Quality Function and Suppliers to eliminate quality issues.
* Perform internal audits to ensure continued compliance to the Quality System.
* Assist in preparatory work in readiness for ISO 9001:2015 / ISO 14001:2015 and other certification audits.
* Monthly data collation for internal quality issues.
* Assist Quality Technician in ensuring all gauges are maintained and calibrated in line with the Gauge Calibration Procedure.
Health & Safety
* Undertake H&S and environmental inductions for new starters.
* Contribute to the annual review of process-based risk assessments.
* Monitor weekly Internal Forklift Truck checks.
* Manage waste contractors (general, cardboard, hazardous).
* Monitor and record monthly energy consumption.
* Submit quarterly battery usage to the Environmental Agency.
* Monitor and record waste recycling.
* Support with annual compilation of environmental information for annual management review.
* Contribute to setting environmental targets with the Head of Quality.
Qualifications & Skills
* Degree-level qualification or a formal engineering background.
* Proven experience of working in a manufacturing / engineering sector, ideally in a QHSE-focused role.
* Demonstrated understanding of production processes and industry compliance requirements.
* Practical, hands-on approach with a proactive mindset.
* Experience conducting or leading internal audits.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
* Structured, methodical and detail orientated.
* Approachable and confident communicator across all levels.
* Member of the Institute of Quality Assurance or similar.
