Job Title: Machine Driver – Enabling Works
Location: Gatwick Airport, West Sussex
Contract Type: Full time hours for 4 weeks
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Machine Driver to join our team working on enabling works at Gatwick Airport. The role involves operating plant machinery safely and efficiently to support groundworks, site preparation, and infrastructure enabling activities within a live airport environment.
This position requires high standards of safety awareness, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional construction team.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate excavators, dumpers, rollers, and other plant machinery in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and site-specific safety procedures.
* Carry out enabling works including site clearance, bulk excavation, trenching, grading, and backfilling.
* Work closely with groundworkers, engineers, and site management to ensure smooth coordination of daily operations.
* Conduct pre-start checks and report any machinery defects or maintenance requirements.
* Adhere strictly to Gatwick Airport's security and operational procedures, including access control and permit requirements.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working area.
* Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and contribute to a culture of safety on site.
* Assist in general site duties when not operating machinery as required.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience operating plant machinery on civil engineering or enabling works projects (airport experience advantageous).
* Valid CPCS or NPORS certification (360 Excavator, Dumper, Roller, or other relevant categories).
* Valid CSCS card.
* Understanding of ground conditions, excavation safety, and site logistics.
* Excellent awareness of underground and overhead services.
* Ability to read and follow site plans and instructions.
* Strong commitment to health and safety.
* Full UK driving licence (preferred).
* Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
Desirable
* Airside pass or prior experience working in airport environments.
* Confined spaces or lifting operations certification.
* First Aid at Work certification.
