About The Team

At Surrey we are proud to be leading the way in implementing new ways of working in personalisation and a recovery-focused strength-based approach. Our goal is for our service-users to be able to be more in control of their care, making informed choices and being active citizens in their community.

We are a supportive team, consisting of AMHPs, Senior Social Workers, Social Workers, Senior Social Care Assistants and administrative staff. We share a wealth of Mental Health knowledge and experience, and there is a strong emphasis on learning and development promoted through regular supervision and team reflection sessions. We strive to support each other, as well as the residents we work with.

About The Role

As the ATM, you will support the Team Manager to deliver high quality personalised adult social care with a clear strength-based agenda. Your responsibilities include verifying assessments and authorising when appropriate, supervising both qualified and unqualified staff in accordance with the Care Act, and applying the Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding vulnerable adults' procedures with evidence.

You will demonstrate commitment to supporting carers and to providing management that upholds and promotes Surrey County Council's equality and diversity policy.

Shortlisting Criteria

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will need to clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

* Professional qualification in Social Work with current registration (Social Work England or relevant authority).
* Significant post‑qualification experience, including management experience within a social care setting.
* Strong knowledge of legislation, assessments, care planning, and reviewing outcomes.
* Proven ability to provide effective professional supervision to AMHPs and less experienced colleagues.
* Confident in making sound, flexible decisions that respond quickly to changing needs.
* Able to prioritise daily challenges and build effective partnership relationships with individuals and professionals.

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and locality based social care workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments will be made for successful applicants with a disability or long-term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 08/03/2026 with interviews to be confirmed.

We look forward to receiving your application, please click on the apply online button below to submit.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation, moving from a two-tier system to two new unitary councils in April 2027. If you are employed by Surrey on 1st April 2027, your role will transfer with current terms and conditions to one of the new organisations, supporting local devolution and greater powers for our communities.

Our Commitment

We are a disability confident employer which means if you have shared a disability on your application form and have evidenced you meet the minimum criteria, we guarantee you an interview. Your skills and experience truly matter to us. From application to your first day, we’re committed to supporting you with any adjustments you need, valuing inclusion and warmly welcoming you to join and help build a workplace where everyone belongs.
