Job Summary
East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust is seeking a Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) to join our Healthy Child Programme. The successful candidate will undertake the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN School Nurse) programme beginning in January 2027, in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University. This role supports the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Responsibilities
* Attend all educational sessions provided by Anglia Ruskin University and submit assignments promptly.
* Work closely with a Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor to develop and implement a clinical learning programme that integrates theory and practice.
* Provide individual and family‑focused health programmes (universal, targeted and specialist pathways) in partnership with other agencies such as schools, social care and early years providers.
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous professional records in line with Trust policy and NMC standards.
* Engage with the Healthy Child Programme, gaining awareness of its delivery and contributing to its success.
* Apply safeguarding knowledge to identify and respond to concerns, including those related to adverse childhood experiences, following local safeguarding policy and inter‑agency procedures.
* Establish and maintain relationships with families and other professionals in a multi‑agency environment.
* Report absences and sickness promptly.
* Participate in regular clinical supervision, audits, and emergency preparedness processes.
* Adhere to data protection, infection control, and risk management policies.
Qualifications & Experience
* Essential: Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (part 1 or part 2) or eligibility to register before the course start date.
* Essential: Commitment to a 52‑week full‑time programme, including annual leave, delivered by Anglia Ruskin University.
* Essential: Academic entry requirements for Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) met.
* Desirable: Practice Assessor qualification or equivalent.
Knowledge & Skills
* Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and IT – for professional information sharing.
* Strong understanding of health and safety guidelines, risk assessment and safe working practices.
* Demonstrated commitment to promoting best practice and continuous professional development.
* Ability to prioritise and organise workload, balancing clinical and academic responsibilities.
* Awareness of safeguarding principles, legislation and local policies to protect children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Person Specification
* Ability to work effectively with children and families, delivering holistic, evidence‑based care.
* Collaborative team member who works with other agencies.
* Knowledge of current legislation, national guidance and local policies relevant to the Healthy Child Programme.
* When desirable: Ability to work independently and demonstrate robust decision‑making skills.
Benefits and Conditions
Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 per annum (pro‑rata, Band 5, Agenda for Change). The role is a fixed‑term, 12‑month contract. Working pattern is full‑time.
