Development and Housing Directorate – Located in the heart of the Lancashire, Preston is a vibrant city with a rich history, beautiful landscapes, and a thriving cultural scene. Preston is at an unprecedented stage in its development. With over £20m of Towns Fund grant, major leisure and public realm projects underway, a new commercial quarter planned at Preston station and the ongoing implementation of the multi-award-winning City Living Strategy alongside the delivery of thousands of new homes and major infrastructure investment and delivery through the City Deal, Preston has developed a new confidence for positive change.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, well organised and motivated individual to join the Planning Enforcement team. In this Assistant Enforcement Officer role you will undertake and assist with the investigation of alleged breaches of planning control and negotiate improvements where necessary. You will deal with a variety of minor planning applications, including householder, advertisement and listed building consent applications submitted as a result of enforcement investigations. You should have excellent communication and negotiation skills. You will be expected to be able to act on your own initiative and have the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.

As this is a customer facing role you will need to have excellent communication skills as you will be dealing with the general public and you will need to be confident in your ability to deal with a wide range of stakeholders and difficult situations where you will need to convey complex, detailed information. As part of the team within Development Management, fellow planning and enforcement officers will be on hand to assist you with queries you may have on particular investigations.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of employee benefits including flexi time, hybrid working, a minimum of 28 days’ annual leave (plus Bank Holidays), family friendly policies, access to an Employee Assistance Programme, Local Government Pension Scheme, AVC’s, life assurance scheme, discounted parking, cycle to work scheme and discounted bus and rail fares.
