Assistant Shift Operator
Salary: £34,520 - £43,151per annum
Hours: 12-hour shift rota (days & nights, with flexibility required)
Location: Lostock EFW, CW9 7ZR
About the Role
As an Assistant Shift Operator at FCC Environment, you will play a crucial role in the safe and efficient operation of our EfW (Energy from Waste) high-pressure boiler and steam turbine generator, as well as all associated auxiliary plant. Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for first-line fault diagnosis and supporting maximum plant reliability, flexibility, and availability, while maintaining high standards of Quality, Health & Environmental performance.
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working on a shift rota.

What Are We Looking For?
•Experience in EfW/Power Station operations and maintenance, or other heavy industry process environments.
•Ideally, an engineering-related qualification at City & Guilds/NVQ/ONC Level (not essential).
•Working knowledge of control room DCS systems and the ability to understand functional diagrams.
•A strong understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) aspects (IOSH Managing Safely is preferable, but training will be provided).
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
•A full UK driving licence and the aptitude to operate large mobile plant (training provided).
•Willingness and ability to operate flexibly across a wide range of work areas and tasks.
•Self-motivation, strong organisational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work unsupervised.
•A proactive, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious approach.
Key Responsibilities
•Operate the plant safely and efficiently during all operating conditions, as directed by the Shift Team Leader.
•Ensure compliance with all aspects of the Environmental Permit.
•Carry out routine plant inspections, collect and record plant data, and respond to first-line maintenance requirements.
•Participate in company/site HSE initiatives and training.
•Support team working, effective communication, and continuous improvement.
•Be flexible with working patterns, including providing shift relief cover as needed.
