Reader or Professor of Mental Health & Care Research Recruitment - Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

King’s College London’s Better Health & Care Hub is a world-leading, cross faculty initiative to develop research and education dedicated to the transformation of health and care, in partnership, and on a local, national and international scale. The Hub aims to accelerate high-quality growth in research, education, and impact, all focused on improving the quality, equality and value of health and care worldwide. The Hub is led by the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC), in collaboration with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) and the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy.

This post for a new Professorship or Readership (subject to experience) in Mental Health and Care Research will be attached to the Better Health & Care Hub and based in the Health Service & Population Research (HSPR) Department, part of the School of Mental Health and Psychological Sciences, at the IoPPN. HSPR is a multi-disciplinary department, including clinical, social, health and population scientists, which conducts world-leading research to better understand and to improve mental health outcomes, systems, and care, particularly in disadvantaged and marginalised populations.

The successful candidate will provide academic leadership and foster interdisciplinarity within and between the Hub and the IoPPN. They will have the skills and commitment to drive the vision of the Better Health & Care Hub in applied health research and education, particularly as it applies to populations of interest to HSPR and the IoPPN. They will contribute to one or more of the core pillars of the Hub (Careforce, Frugal Innovation, and Communities – see Better Health & Care Hub | King's College London ) and align with the strategic aims of the Hub to pioneer innovative evidence-based approaches to improve care and support, to spearhead research, impact and education, and to enable rapid and scalable responses that are relevant to current and future health and care challenges and that reduce inequalities to improve outcomes for all. Areas of particular interest to HSPR include youth mental health and mental health of marginalised groups, but other areas will be considered for the right candidate.

The successful candidate is expected to have an international reputation in their field, an established research programme, a track record of publications, grant income and wide-reaching research impact, and potential for significant future grant income in a field relevant to HSPR and the IoPPN. They will be expected to develop, support and foster a research team of mid and early career research staff and students and establish collaborations across the IoPPN, the FNMPC, and across King’s more broadly. The successful candidate will have strong leadership, interpersonal and education skills, will champion an inclusive working environment, and will contribute to administrative activities and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
