Do you want a job that makes a difference for future generations? Do you enjoy analysing data, working with spreadsheets and applying problem solving skills?
If yes, the Integrated Commissioning and Public Health Service may have a role for you.
The Role
We are recruiting a Senior Information Officer to join the Education and Childcare Commissioning Team within Sheffield City Council.
This is an exciting time to join the Education and Childcare Commissioning Team, as we develop into a single education commissioning function, spanning mainstream and special educational needs (SEND). This role will be focused on priority areas in both mainstream and SEND and across a range of sectors including Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post 16.
This is a challenging and rewarding area of commissioning, that requires personal tenacity and a ‘can-do’ attitude to succeed and make a difference. To succeed in this role, you will need many qualities, including being pro-active, solution focused, and able to work effectively with partners both inside and outside the Council. Your areas of work will be determined by the priorities set by the Head of Commissioning. These will change over time, as the strategic position develops, and issues change.
As a Senior Information Officer, you will lead on specific data related areas of work and be part of a wider commissioning team.
You will contribute to the Service’s work relating to the strategic planning of educational provision, in particular through managing the information support function, ensuring that systems for work-planning and monitoring are in place and by assisting with specific projects.
The role will require a high level of analytical skills and an ability to present and communicate complex information to a variety of different audiences. This will include an ability to:
1. work closely with the Council’s Performance Analysis Service (PAS);
2. undertake secondary data analysis;
3. translate commissioning requirements into workable reporting tools and reports;
4. demonstrate a basic understanding of the benefits/limitations of data and of statistical analysis, and
5. analyse, interpret and present data.
Strong communication, IT and analytical skills are important to succeed in this role, including an understanding of how to analyse, interpret, extract and present data and also create specific reports in a variety of formats. Ideally you will be confident using at least one of the following applications: Power BI, SPSS, Stata or R and willing to develop your skills further.
Working as a Senior Information Officer will give you a strong and diverse skillset, with potential progression to Commissioning Officer and beyond. The skills you develop will also be suitable for a range of roles outside of commissioning.
Previous experience of working in education is not essential.
If this sounds like the role for you, we would love to hear from you.
Sheffield Integrated Commissioning and the Public Health Service
Sheffield is a brilliant and diverse city of over 700,000 people and is the fourth biggest city in England. We have amazing environmental, cultural, sporting and heritage assets, and are proud of the fact that our outdoor city has been named as the greenest in the UK and is the only city in the UK to include a national park within its boundaries.
Integrated Commissioning has recently undergone exciting changes and is now a single service closely allied with the council’s Public Health Service under the leadership of the Director of Public Health. This aligning of Integrated Commissioning alongside the Public Health Service brings exciting new partnerships and development opportunities.
We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.
