About You

Working Pattern
12 weeks training, the first few weeks you will work on Monday‑Friday at 09:00‑17:00. Thereafter, training will continue during your regular shift hours which are Monday – Friday 07:00 - 15:00, 1 in 4 weekends.
What You Will Do
* Follow a highly regulated end‑to‑end sterilisation/decontamination process on surgical instruments that have been used in operations in local NHS and private hospitals, to ensure they can be used again safely for the next patient.
* Ensure the effective preparation of sterile consumables (dressings, linen, surgical instruments, and equipment) by the process of decontamination, inspection, assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
* Rigorously check, wash, lay up and pack sets of theatre instruments to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.
* Safely operate and monitor machines and equipment (washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic and sterilisers) effectively.
* Ensure that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
* Ensure that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust’s appointed person.

Access to Apprenticeship
Access to a Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship! This is a 12‑15 month fully funded programme studying good scientific practice for the Healthcare profession! It is universally applicable outside of STERIS! Completed on the job, you are given 20% of your working hours to study towards the qualification. Further apprenticeships are available throughout the course of your career!
Required Experience
Educated on good general standard with demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities.
Basic end‑user IT skills to operate track and traceability IT systems.
