Job Title: Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer Location: Gloucester, UK (with flexible working options) Salary: Up to £80k Overview: A high-performing product development team is seeking a Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer to contribute to the design and delivery of secure, high-speed, cross-domain solutions. This is an opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of product development—from initial concept through to support—in a hands-on engineering environment focused on cutting-edge hardware and firmware technologies. Key Responsibilities: Design and implement firmware using VHDL for high-performance FPGAs (predominantly Altera/Intel). Collaborate on full lifecycle development, from architecture to deployment. Integrate high-bandwidth FPGA features such as networking, DRAM interfaces, and embedded blocks. Lead and mentor junior engineers, supporting their development and delivery efforts. Contribute to the broader hardware development process including custom PCBs, power systems, and thermal design. Essential Skills & Experience: Strong VHDL programming skills and experience with at least one FPGA toolchain (Intel, Xilinx, Achronix, etc.). Experience working with embedded FPGA blocks and high-speed data interfaces. Proven track record of delivering secure, high-reliability embedded systems. Capability to plan tasks and lead small technical teams. Desirable Experience: High-bandwidth data processing in FPGAs. Experience designing or developing secure communications or defensive cyber products. Understanding of digital hardware design and architecture. Eligibility Requirements: Must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance. Must meet residency and nationality requirements due to the sensitive nature of the work. On-site presence is required; remote working is not regularly offered, though flexible working arrangements are supported.
