Children's ED Manager

We are seeking a Band 7 Manager to provide leadership to the Children’s Emergency Department (CED) and Paediatric Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. This role requires significant paediatric urgent/emergency care experience and a passion for patient safety, staff wellbeing, and service improvement.
Responsibilities
* Lead the day‑to‑day operational management of the CED and Paediatric SDEC.
* Ensure safe staffing, skill mix, patient flow, and escalation processes.
* Provide visible and supportive leadership in a fast‑paced emergency environment.
* Maintain oversight of clinical governance, safeguarding, and patient safety.
* Line‑manage ward sisters/charge nurses and associated staff groups.
* Lead investigations into incidents and complaints, embedding learning into practice.
* Use data, audit, and feedback to drive quality improvement.
* Work collaboratively with medical teams, site management, and wider paediatric services.
Leadership, Professionalism & Caring

* Treat staff, patients and families with respect, dignity and fairness.
* Promote inclusive, psychologically safe team cultures.
* Take ownership for operational challenges and follow through on actions.

Qualifications
* Registered Children’s Nurse.
* Leadership or management qualification (or willingness to work towards).
Experience
* Significant postregistration experience in paediatric emergency or urgent care.
* Experience working within Paediatric SDEC services.
