Senior Clinical Psychologist/Psychological Therapist

0.5 WTE Senior Clinical Psychologist/Psychological Therapist for Longview Ward (female acute ward) at Hopewood Park. The post will be part of the wider MDT working with service users on Longview Ward. Band 8a Clinical Psychology development post within the Adult Inpatients Service.

We are seeking enthusiastic Clinical Psychologists or Psychological Therapists to provide specialist psychological input on our wards. Prior inpatient experience is desirable but not essential.

There are three acute adult inpatient wards at Hopewood Park (two male, one female). Each ward has a 0.5 WTE (18.75 hours) Psychologist, supported by a 0.5 WTE Higher Assistant Psychologist. An 8c Consultant Psychologist post exists across all three wards.

The Adult Mental Health Inpatient Service delivers multidisciplinary care using a biopsychosocial model for adults over 18. The acute service cares for service users with complex needs across neurodiversity, psychosis, personality and learning difficulties, risk to self and others, forensic issues and behaviours that challenge.


Main duties of the job

* Provide expertise in specialist psychological assessment (including cognitive assessments), collaborative formulation and interventions with service users.
* Work with multidisciplinary teams to embed formulation and trauma-informed care.
* Deliver individual and group-based work, involving families and carers where appropriate.
* Support multidisciplinary staff through supervision, team formulation, understanding complex risk, developing behaviour support plans and reflective practice sessions and training.
* Contribute to research, service evaluation and audit as appropriate.
* Develop skills in supervision and take advantage of opportunities provided by Higher Assistant Psychologist support on wards.

Person Specification

* Essential: Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology), two or more psychological therapies, lifespan development; HCPC registered; Honours Degree in Psychology with graduate membership of BPS or equivalent; post-graduate qualifications in psychological assessment and therapy (e.g., Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, CBT diploma).
* Desirable: Additional qualifications in research methodology or staff training; further qualification in a therapeutic model with evidence for this client group.
* Knowledge and Experience (Essential):
* Knowledge of specialist psychological therapies for difficult-to-treat groups; strong communication skills; doctoral-level research knowledge; ongoing CPD; formal training in supervision; substantial post-qualification experience across care settings including inpatient; evidence of 50 hours of clinical supervision over at least 18 months or as agreed; experience in clinical supervision.
* Skills and Competencies (Essential):
* Emotional self-management; specialist skills in evidence-based psychological interventions; complex psychological assessment, intervention and management; ability to provide clinical supervision and consultation to other professionals and non-professionals.
