Senior Reserving Actuary
Excellent opportunity to join our Reserving team here at Admiral Group as Senior Reserving Actuary. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is looking to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in their actuarial career to date in a fresh new environment, one which will challenge but ultimately reward you with responsibility for contributing to key projects.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Reserving, you’ll be a key part of the team from day one - building your understanding of our business, contributing to reserve reviews, and helping to shape how we continuously improve our processes.
With the ever-changing external environment, this is a great time to be working within the Reserving Team of a leading UK insurer.
As a senior member of the team, you’ll also play an important role in supporting and mentoring junior colleagues, helping to grow capability across the team. You’ll work closely with a wide network of stakeholders, including Finance Senior Management, Claims, the Reserving Committee, Audit, Line Risk, Reinsurance partners and external actuarial partners, giving you real visibility and influence across the organisation.
Responsibilities
1. Owning and contributing to key elements of the quarterly reserving process across Motor, Household and Van products from data through to insight and reporting
2. Challenging and validating outputs to ensure robust decision-making
3. Developing and enhancing monitoring tools, working closely with Claims to understand emerging trends
4. Driving continuous improvement by identifying and implementing smarter, more efficient processes
5. Supporting key initiatives such as data transformation and reserving enhancements
6. Reviewing and challenging Solvency UK Technical Provisions and IFRS outputs
7. Building models and tools to support evolving business needs
8. Staying ahead of industry trends and best practice
9. Ensuring documentation is clear, robust and aligned with Technical Actuarial Standards
10. Supporting and developing colleagues across the wider Reserving teams
Essential skills and experience
11. Qualified or nearly qualified Actuary (IFoA or equivalent)
12. Strong reserving experience, ideally within personal lines
13. Knowledge of Solvency UK and IFRS frameworks
14. A strong analytical mindset, with excellent attention to detail
15. Experience supporting or mentoring others
16. Confidence working with senior stakeholders and presenting complex insights clearly
17. Ability to manage priorities and deliver to deadlines independently
18. Strong Excel skills and experience working with actuarial data and models
Desirable skills and experience
19. Experience across multiple product lines ( Motor, Household, Van)
20. Exposure to transformation or process improvement initiatives
21. Awareness of market trends within personal lines reserving
