As lead Pharmacy Technician you will, under the guidance of the Prison Pharmacist and senior management team at HMP Styal, lead the Pharmacy team in the provision of a safe, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical service to prisoners (hereafter known as service users).
Main duties of the job
This role involves mentoring and developing the skills of the wider pharmacy team by improving patient safety in line with the national strategy for medicines optimisation and pharmacy services. You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the in-house dispensary, ensuring efficiency and consistency.

Person Specification
Qualification
* BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
* Accredited technician checking qualification
* Higher degree or equivalent experience
* Management or clinical qualifications relevant to prison healthcare
Knowledge
* Medicines optimisation issues
* Pharmacy legal requirements and controlled drug legislation
* At least 3 years post-qualification experience in community/hospital pharmacy
* Experience working with potentially aggressive individuals
* Experience in challenging and complex situations
* Understanding of diversity in practice
* Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
* Understanding of security issues in prison settings
* Substance misuse knowledge
* Experience working with substance misusers/services
* Experience in a prison or similar environment
Skills
* Good clinical pharmacy knowledge, including terminology
* Computer literacy (Word and Excel)
* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
* Ability to prepare reports, bulletins, and conduct prescribing audits
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, to check for any criminal convictions.
