We are looking for a hands on Materials Controller to take ownership of the accurate receipt, storage, movement, and dispatch of materials. This is a critical role where accuracy, accountability, and attention to detail are essential to ensure production runs smoothly and customers receive their orders on time. You will play a key role in controlling stock, ensuring materials are correctly booked in, stored efficiently, and issued accurately to support operational demands.

Our client is looking for a stores and logistics expert, someone highly conversant with goods in and goods out processes and procedures.

Job Summary

The Material Controller is responsible for the hands on management of materials, ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, kitting, and distribution of goods within stores and production areas, as well as the timely shipment of products to customers. The role involves managing inventory levels, coordinating closely with supply chain functions, and working collaboratively with quality and production teams to ensure materials meet required standards and are available in line with production schedules. The Materials Controller plays a critical role in maintaining production efficiency by proactively resolving material related issues, driving results, and minimising material costs and excess inventory through effective control and problem solving.

Key Responsibilities

Goods-In & Receiving:

Receive and inspect incoming goods in line with quality compliance.
Book materials into ERP/MRP systems and ensure proper documentation.
Coordinate with quality teams for incoming material inspections.

Dispatch & Logistics:

Pack and prepare finished goods for dispatch, ensuring proper documentation.
Coordinate shipments with logistics providers, ensuring on-time delivery.
Ensure compliance with shipping regulations and customer requirements.
ERP/MRP System Management:
Accurately update inventory transactions, stock movements, and material usage.
Generate reports on stock levels, shortages and material trends.

Stores & Inventory Control:

Maintain accurate stock levels through regular cycle counting and inventory audits.
Organise and store materials efficiently to ensure easy accessibility.
Monitor stock movement and report discrepancies.
Manage relationships with supply chain to ensure timely delivery of materials and resolve any disruptions.

General Warehouse Operations:

Ensure a clean, safe, and organised warehouse environment.
Operate material handling equipment such as pallet trucks if required.
Adhere to health and safety regulations and company policies.

Material Distribution & Kitting:

Pick and issue materials for production in line with work orders and schedules.
Assemble kits for production, ensuring accuracy and readiness.
Support material flow to production areas to prevent shortages or delays.

Key Deliverables

Timely material availability for production to meet customer demand and production schedules.
Timely dispatch and accurate receipt of goods, ensuring smooth operations.
Minimisation of material shortages and production stoppages through proactive inventory management.
Accurate inventory levels reflected in ERP/MRP systems through regular cycle counts and updates.
Compliance with high-reliability electronics standards for material quality and documentation.

Key Metrics

On-Time Delivery: Percentage of parts delivered to customer on or before the scheduled date

On-Time Material Availability: Percentage of materials delivered on time to meet production schedules.
Inventory Accuracy: Accuracy of inventory counts and alignment with ERP/MRP system data.
Cost Efficiency: Reduction in material waste, scrap, and excess inventory costs.
Materials Availability & Service Level: Tracks stoppages caused by missing or incorrect materials, accuracy of receipts, issues, and transfers booked into the system.
