Detention Custody Officer (DCO) - International Immigration Removals
Working as a DCO within our Gatwick team means that you will be escorting immigration returnees within the UK and flying internationally to their country of origin, other modes of transportation can be used in some circumstances. This will mean you are the responsible for maintaining high standards of safety and security for those being removed from the UK, whilst promoting their welfare and decency.
In this fast-paced and sometimes physically challenging role you will need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills to support colleagues, work together in teams and a passion for delivering exceptional service to our returnees. No two days are the same and as you gain experience within this challenging role, we'll support you throughout your time to grow and develop.
Due to UK Government Standard Security Clearance, DBS and Vetting associated with this role the following points are applicable to proceed with an application for this position:
1. You are a British passport holder.
2. You hold a full and valid UK manual driving licence, held for at least 12 months.
3. Over the age of 21.
4. If you have points, it must be 6 or less on your licence.
5. You have lived in the UK continuously for the past 5 years and have not spent any single period of more than 3 consecutive months outside the UK during this time.
6. You have strong English and maths skills, equivalent to GCSE level, with the ability to produce clear written reports that may be reviewed by official authorities.
7. You are physically fit and capable of meeting the demands of a role that may involve sustained physical activity.
8. You are willing and able to receive a Yellow Fever vaccination, which is a mandatory requirement for travel to certain countries.

10. 37.5 hours per week, this will be on a shift pattern of 10 days on and 4 days off, days a year.

Training
Once you have passed our selection and vetting process, you'll begin your Care & Custody career by completing a paid 4-week initial training course (ITC) Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm locally. This is followed by a residential programme focused on teaching the safe and lawful application of physical restraint and use of force. Both this and continued development over the next 12 months alongside on the job mentoring and assessments, you will gain our accredited Level 3 apprenticeship in Detention and Custody which will fully equip you for this role.
