Assistant Planned Maintenance Manager

BEAR Scotland is a leading road maintenance and management service provider in Scotland, maintaining and improving Scottish Trunk Roads including bridges and structures through some of the most scenic, but challenging, parts of the country.

The Northwest Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Planned Maintenance Manager to join our existing team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Planned Maintenance Manager/Roads Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day management of a team delivering both the Roads Structural Maintenance and Routine Maintenance budgets within your area.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Support the Planned Maintenance Manager and Roads Manager in securing the execution of all Operations in accordance with the requirements of this Contract.
2. The day-to-day management of a team delivering both the Roads Structural Maintenance and Routine Maintenance budgets within a geographic region of the Unit, to achieve full spend of the Clients budgets and meet Company financial targets.
3. The post holder will coordinate their team to ensure a steady flow of work for Operational and Sub-Contractor delivery.
4. Undertake the role of Principle Designer/Principal Contractor on behalf of the company as required and ensure appropriate risk assessments are carried out scheme designs are fit for purpose and comply with relevant technical standards.
5. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures, and to current legislation on Health and Safety, CDM, Environment and Accessibility, as well as liaising with clients, emergency services, local authorities and other stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

6. Relevant Civil Engineering degree
7. Professionally qualified or working towards professional qualification (IEng/CEng)
8. Knowledge of current design standards
9. Working knowledge of contract control and management systems
10. Ability to work to tight deadlines and work under pressure
11. Ability to produce innovative solutions to engineering problems
12. Good oral and written communication skills
13. Full approved UK Driving license
