Join to apply for the Chief Cardiac Physiologist (CRM) - Fixed Term role at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This post is a 12-month fixed term maternity cover. We are seeking a suitably qualified Cardiac Physiologist to join our team at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. This is a very active department providing a wide range of investigations and we are expanding our team of multi-skilled cardiac physiologists as invasive services grow. The department has a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up service. The post holder will rotate through all aspects of the department and, where appropriate, participate in our 24/7 PPCI service.
Applicants should have extensive bradycardia and complex pacing post-qualification experience including remote monitoring and FSN management. A BSc in Clinical Physiology/HTEC MPPM (or equivalent) and RCCP registration is desirable. Extensive knowledge and experience in invasive techniques are essential. Further post-graduate learning for CRM (HRUK/IBHRE) is essential. Successful applicants would be expected to potentially rotate across both sites.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical management, education and support in the cardiac rhythm management service, including remote monitoring, field safety notices (FSNs) and the invasive cardiology service; assist during the full range of cardiac procedures undertaken within diagnostics and the angiography suite.
* Maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non-invasive).
* Assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritising the daily workload where appropriate.
* Respond promptly and professionally to emergency situations, maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
* Identify equipment faults and resolve issues, reporting them in a timely manner.
* Provide first-line interpretation and full technical reports of individual tests while reviewing/assisting with the reporting of studies performed by junior staff.
* Keep up to date with latest trends in clinical physiology and translate these into practice; transfer knowledge to staff within the area of responsibility.
* Assist with research studies as required and ensure all patients receive appropriate and individualised care.
* Undertake service provision and/or training in other areas of Clinical Physiology as required.
* Participate in the 24/7 on-call service provided by the Clinical Physiology department, as required.
Managerial and Professional Leadership
* Ensure data entered on the invasive database is timely and accurate; produce statistical records and audits as required.
* Deputise for the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist when necessary; manage junior cardiac physiology personnel.
* Assist with recruitment/retention of staff within the Clinical Measurements Department.
* Assist with the organisation and performance of the invasive angiography service including management of the primary PCI rota and physiologist service.
* Work with the Operations Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist to meet government targets in Cardiac Physiology services; contribute to protocols, guidelines and policies to achieve IQIPS accreditation.
* Implement local policies and guidelines; ensure adherence to current professional recommendations and evidence-based practice.
* Work in accordance with standards set by the Society for Cardiological Sciences and Technology (SCST) and RCCP; be familiar with Cerner, Solus and Pacenet and other computerised systems used in the department.
* Coordinate stock management with manufacturers/suppliers; ensure adequate stock and economical use of supplies.
* Manage time effectively to balance clinical and administrative duties; undertake other duties as directed by the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist.
Personnel and Education
* Demonstrate professional conduct and act as a role model to junior staff; supervise training and development of staff within area of responsibility.
* Lead and participate in education/training to maintain professional accreditation and development of local competencies; ensure mandatory training is up to date.
* Maintain a progressive learning environment for all grades and disciplines within the area of responsibility; support a rigorous training programme ensuring staff attain state registration.
Administration
* Register patient attendances on the department’s Solus database and book appointments; track patient progression, case notes and demographics.
* Coordinate portering services and equipment movement; communicate effectively with staff, patients and visitors; maintain department cleanliness and tidiness.
* Be cost-conscious in the use of equipment and resources; rebook patients as needed and manage returns of ambulatory monitors.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties at the discretion of the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist.
