About the role
Reporting into the Operations manager the Shift manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the production environment at our Tannochside facility ensuring that processes are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards.
This role plays a critical part in driving continuous improvement, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring readiness for both internal and external audits.
Responsibilities:
* Supervise production activities to ensure smooth and timely workflow, aligned with established company procedures and quality standards.
* Monitor and enforce health and safety regulations within the production environment, ensuring full compliance with safety codes.
* Identify and report potential hazards on the production floor or warehouse, taking prompt corrective action where needed.
* Instruct team members on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
* Respond to and report workplace accidents, conducting preliminary investigations and contributing to root cause analysis.
* Supervising production work at the end of each shift to ensure its completion and quality
* Coordinate facility renovations and oversee the construction or installation of new production areas and equipment as required.
* Monitor performance targets against set machine efficiencies, covering line speeds, line manning levels to agreed operational standards. Short Interval Control (SIC) management to allow for accuracy against total net machine/line efficiency.
* Monitor plan attainment across all lines and report any failings versus agreed plan.
* Providing recognition and constructive feedback throughout the shift as appropriate
* Supervise production activities to ensure smooth and timely workflow, aligned with established company procedures and quality standards.
* Support the operations manager to coordinate facility renovations and/or installations of new production areas and equipment as required.
* Champion continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, reduce waste, and improve overall efficiency.
* Prepare for and actively participate in internal and external audits, ensuring all production and safety documentation is current, accurate, and audit ready.
* Take ownership of audit outcomes, implementing corrective actions and improvements based on audit feedback.
* Lead the induction and on-the-job training of new production employees, ensuring they understand workflows and performance expectations.
* Lead, train, and mentor support teams to ensure high performance and engagement.
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement and problem-solving.
* Develop and implement training programs to enhance workforce skill-sets
Experience & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in a food/drink production supervisory/management role, preferably across manufacturing environment.
* FMCG experience preferred
* Previous experience working in a production/logistics environment, is an added advantage.
* Demonstrate the ability to respond to emergencies that happen on the production floor
* Strong communication and listening skills - both in written and verbal formats
* Problem analysis and problem-solving skills
* Strong understanding of safety regulations and compliance standards.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills.
* Proficiency in using production management systems and maintaining detailed operational records.
* Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) is highly desirable.
* Familiarity with audit processes and documentation requirements.
