Senior Advisor – Energy & Combustion – Fixed term (up to 2 years)
Job Description
The Environment Agency is looking for an experienced regulator to support the transformation of the energy sector, addressing emissions, security and sustainability goals. The role involves technical leadership, strategy development and stakeholder engagement across a broad range of combustion and waste processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
* Develop strategy for the energy sector and produce regulatory tools to support environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where required.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and industry players.
* Respond to incidents and support business continuity during incidents.
* Lead on the definition of sector standards and best practices for environmental protection.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience regulating or working within combustion, waste incineration or refinery sectors.
* Strong technical and regulatory knowledge of emissions controls and environmental legislation.
* Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with regulators, industry, academia and government.
* Collaborative team player with experience delivering complex projects.
* Capacity to manage competing priorities and support high‑profile stakeholders.

Additional Information
The vacancy closes at the end of October. Interviews will be held in Birmingham by the end of November. Some travel will be required. The contract is up to 2 years.
