Principal Designer / CDM Consultant
Ridge and Partners LLP is seeking a Principal Designer / CDM Consultant to join its rapidly growing Construction Health and Safety team.
Opportunity
The team provides CDM related services across the UK, including Principal Designer, Principal Designer Support Services and CDM Advisor roles, working with diverse sectors such as residential, commercial, retail, office, advanced manufacturing, leisure, hotel, sport, science, industry and education.
This role offers the chance to be part of a highly successful consultancy undergoing exciting growth, working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary approach.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate closely with the project team, client and designers to deliver Principal Designer services and ensure compliance with CDM regulations.
* Manage the pre‑construction phase, including preparation and collation of pre‑construction information, lead CDM workshops and contribute to the development of design safety strategies.
* Liaise with stakeholders—including client, principal contractor, architect, design team—to keep them updated on H&S/CDM matters.
* Carry out site inspections and compliance audits.
* Prepare Health and Safety files and review operation and maintenance manuals.
* Contribute to and develop bid submissions and fee proposals under supervision.
* Stay aware of new work opportunities and potential new clients, and maintain existing client relationships.
Requirements
* Proven experience providing Principal Designer and CDM Advisor services.
* Strong understanding of the design and construction process and risk reduction principles.
* In‑depth knowledge of CDM regulations and associated legislation.
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate or a comparable technical or professional qualification.
* Associate Member of the Association for Project Safety and/or technical membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
* Current record of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
* Good knowledge of BSA changes affecting the industry, including the role of Building Regulations Principal Designer.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
* Excellent communication, team working and flexibility in balancing health & safety risks with cost and programme, whilst maintaining legal compliance.
