The closing date is 20 April 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for five new substantive Consultant Anaesthetists to join the Theatres, Anaesthesia and Peri-operative Medicine (TAP) Directorate at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking motivated and forward-thinking clinicians who are committed to delivering excellent patient care within a high-performing, multidisciplinary team. Applicants must be medically qualified, hold GMC specialist registration, and have a licence to practise.

These posts are ideally suited to anaesthetists who have recently completed specialist training and have additional experience working in a busy teaching hospital environment.

We are proud to be part of one of the UK's leading academic health science centres, offering exposure to a diverse case mix, cutting-edge practice, and a highly collaborative clinical community.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will work across a broad range of general anaesthetic services at both Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital sites.

The role is offered as a full-time 10 Programmed Activity (PA) contract, typically comprising:

* 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA)
* 0.5 PA for on-call commitments

Clinical responsibilities will include elective theatre work. The standard working pattern is across five days (Monday to Friday), with participation in a weekend rota (approximately 1 in 10 weeks).

On-call commitments will initially be based at Guy's Hospital, covering thoracic, difficult airway, and renal transplant anaesthesia. Opportunities to align on-call duties with specialist interests at St Thomas' Hospital (e.g. vascular or gastrointestinal services) will be available.

The post offers flexibility to develop a personalised job plan, aligned to individual clinical interests and professional goals. This will be agreed with Clinical Leads within the first three months of appointment and reviewed annually.
