Position
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a School Nurse / Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Schools) within our Children and Families Health Team in North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership based at Ballot Road Clinic in Irvine. Applications for candidates willing to undertake the SCPHN (Schools) course would be considered.
Hours
This is a permanent post of 36 hours per week, with hours worked between Monday and Friday. The service is supportive of requests to support work‑life balance in line with needs and there could be flexibility in working pattern following discussion.
From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part‑time staff) without loss of earnings.
UK Driving Licence
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.
What you will do
Post holder will work in partnership with children/young people and families, and multi‑agency partners to identify health needs and then support and deliver interventions to a vulnerable client group as defined by the refocused role of the School nurse and following the School Nursing Pathways.
The post holder will be expected to be accountable for caseload management, school nurse activity and support the school nursing service as delegated by the team manager.
Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post
You must be a first level registered nurse, educated to degree level.
Candidates with the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) qualification will be considered; however, applicants without the qualification will also be considered with an expectation that the qualification will be undertaken once in employment in line with job requirements.
A working knowledge of Child Protection and care experience is desirable.
Evidence of continuing professional development, as well as good communication and IT skills are essential.
Membership of the PVG scheme prior to appointment is required.

When considering if a post meets the salary threshold for sponsorship, please note the salary advertised is based on a full‑time contract and must be pro‑rated for part‑time positions. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case‑by‑case basis following interview and at the commencement of pre‑employment checks.
