Job overview

The PERRT Band 7 role is suitable for nurses with significant experience in intensive care and in critical care outreach, and who wish to develop further in the four pillars of advanced practice.

If you are driven by values that align with those of UCLH, and are motivated to improve outcomes for deteriorating patients, then this might well be the perfect job for you.

PERRT at UCLH is a 24/7 nursing service, that provides leadership and hands on clinical response to deteriorating patients and supports the staff caring for them.

This is not an easy role, and there are many challenges which will help you grow and develop personally and professionally.

All our staff are supported to undertake advanced life support courses (adult and paediatric), and a level 7 advanced physical assessment module within the first 6-12 months of starting in role.

PERRT staff are supported to undertake the MSc ACP at City, University of London. Non- medical prescribers are supported by our critical care PERRT medical consultant.

Our recruitment process is designed so that you have the opportunity to best demonstrate your skills and expertise.

If you do not have all the essential criteria for PERRT band 7, consider contacting us about options for a band 6 development role. (note that you must already have significant intensive care nursing experience as a minimum for the band 6 role).

Main duties of the job

A typical shift includes assessment of patients already under PERRT review, responding to 2222 calls across the site, delivery of resuscitation training, reflective learning from events, supporting junior PERRT colleagues, assessing and managing risks, liaising with numerous MDT colleagues, and enjoying the challenges and learning that are inherent in the role.

The PERRT role provides opportunity to develop in all 4 pillars of the advanced practice framework, and we work closely with our academic partners. We are fortunate to have a senior lecturer in advanced practice in an honorary nurse consultant position with PERRT. Our clinical academic partnership is further strengthened with our senior nurses are honorary lecturers at City, University of London.

In addition to the RCUK and ALSG life support courses we also deliver courses developed locally from the ground up, such as the MERRT course for our dental colleagues, and the enhanced care QiS (accredited at level 7) for our non-ICU nursing colleagues.
