An exciting opportunity has arisen for a one-year fixed term Assistant Psychologist Internship in the Early Intervention in Psychosis Team in Trafford at Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust. The internship is part-time for days per week for one year.

As part of a collaboration with NHS England, we are offering a paid opportunity for ethnically diverse, aspiring clinical psychologists who might otherwise be financially disadvantaged by volunteering schemes.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist. You will work as part of a friendly MDT, alongside a range of professionals, including CBT therapists and psychologists. We work mostly in community centres and in people’s own homes with young people aged 14 to 35 years.
The post holder will contribute to assessments of people who are referred to the service, provide group and individual interventions and evaluate the impact of the service. The role will provide you with key learning experiences that we hope will help you make a successful application for Clinical Psychology training.

You will receive supportive supervision and will be offered mentoring with other team members who have expertise in cultural sensitivity and culturally adapted therapy. Knowledge
Essential criteria
9. An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology or equivalent. Eligibility to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
Desirable criteria
10. Postgraduate training in psychology, mental health, or research. Training in psychosocial or family interventions (, PSI, BFT).

11. Experience of working with the public either in a voluntary or paid capacity Experience of working under supervision. Experience of working as part of a team. Demonstrable insight/ understanding of mental health difficulties. Knowledge of the range of psychological assessments and interventions An understanding of the applications of psychological principals in health and social care settings Excellent written and verbal communication skills Able to communicate effectively in what can be a highly emotive atmosphere. The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. You will be required to enrol for this service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
