Hays Construction are delighted to be working in partnership with a leading UK national contractor to recruit an experienced Design Manager for their well-established and busy Inverness office.
Due to continued growth and a strong local pipeline, this contractor is looking to strengthen their regional team with a Design Manager who is passionate about delivering high-quality commercial projects across the Highlands and North of Scotland.
Your New Role
As Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of a range of attractive local commercial schemes, working closely with pre-construction, commercial and on-site delivery teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Managing the design process from tender through to handover
2. Coordinating consultants, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
3. Ensuring design solutions meet technical, programme and commercial requirements
4. Reviewing and managing design risk, buildability and compliance
5. Supporting bid submissions and value engineering exercises
6. Maintaining strong relationships with clients and the wider project team
Projects are predominantly local commercial developments, offering the opportunity to see schemes through from inception to completion while avoiding long-distance travel.
What You'll Need to SucceedTo be considered for this role, you will ideally have:
7. Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Coordinator within a main contracting environment
8. A background in commercial or mixed-use construction projects
9. Strong technical knowledge of construction methods and design management processes
10. The ability to communicate confidently with consultants, clients and site teams
11. A proactive, solutions-focused approach to design coordination
